Introducing Leen!

Continuing from the last post, sort of, Jeralyne was at home on bedrest for all of one day!

On Tuesday, I went to work as usual, and just before 10 am Jeralyne called me to let me know her Water had broke!

Jeralyne got a ride to the hospital with our neighbours, Carmen and Bill, and I hoped a bus and a taxi, and arrived a few minutes later at the hospital

Having already done a dry run on the weekend, the check in process was quite easy.

We meet with the doctor on duty and decided to let nature take its course for a while before using any drugs. The protocol is to deliver a baby within 24 hours of the water breaking.

Not much was happening by the early afternoon, so the doctor started Jeralyne on Oxytocin which occours naturally in the body and helps speed the dilation. That's pretty much when all craziness ensued in the birthing unit. For the next twelve hours we figure at least 6 babies were born, including several C sections and an emergency C section, the entire time Jeralyne and I waited for Leen in the room at the end of the hall. We must of had nearly 10 nurses during the delivery. Jeralyne finally got her Epidural at 1:30 in the morning, and that really speed things up! The nurses were really happy with Jeralyne and her slow delivery (I am pretty sure Jeralyne was not really as happy as they were).

Jeralyne after 19 hours of labour brought our tiny bundle of Joy into the world! At 4:44 am I had the privilege of of watching Leen emerge, and a few minutes later cut his umbilical cord.
